Connections key to staying at Baker
I know of quite a few people, including myself, who have gone
our entire academic careers without those connections. Now that we're here, we
can't/don't know how to make them. When you can't afford to go out every
weekend, they eventually stop asking you to go. By tthe time you scrape together
enough pennies and dimes to go, those "connections" are long gone. I absolutely
must say that connections, in my case, are not the key. Lack of connection is.
It's amazing to be able to blend into the woodwork and become an all-seeing eye.
(Yes, I made a LOTR reference). Besides...I'm here to learn, not to make
friends. I'm not here to socialize, or "make connections." What it all comes
down to is determination and how bad you want what you've worked your ass off
for.

Facebook status messages prove to be offensive after election
It is funny, when the Bushs were elected the liberals like the
Baldwins said they were moving to France or made death threats against teh
President elect and people shrugged them off. But you threaten a liberal, people
show disgust and get upset. Why the double standard? Why the big deal over a
liberal getting threaten? Many of the left cheered when Reagan was shot and
wanted to see them successful. Or it is the Republicans fault for the problems
we face when the democrats are running Congress. Come on, the real problem is
the voters, who never vote for real change, but the status quo by voting for
republicans or democrats!
I've realized that I'm a person that needs deep friendships (or connections if you will). I know that not all people need/desire those connections like I do.It's a matter of personality I suppose...I'm here for an education, but after going an entire year and only feeling that I learned anything from one class I turned elsewhere for my education. Enter the friends.Am I paying $25,000 for membership to a social club? Perhaps. I've since found classes that do teach me, so my cynicism has diminished. I like Baker a lot now, because of those connections I've forged. Again, it's a matter of taste I suppose.

It sounds like it's time to clean up your friends list. People who are that ignorant shouldn't be tolerated. I deleted a few who were "praying for Obama's soul," since he's apparently scaring the white religious (racist) folk.
It's one thing to have an opinion, it's another to be offensive and completely out of line. I disagreed with Bush on most every topic. When he was re-elected to office I was devastated. However, I certainly did not pledge a vow on my Facebook profile to move to another country or declare the end of humanity. As much as I disfavor Bush, I did not like the "Dump Bush" stickers on cars nor the radical negative demonstrations of my liberal peers. Bush was, after all, my president, whether I liked it or not. I had respect for him as my president, and I debated his choices respectfully and as rationally as possible.Obama, now, is president, whether people like it or not. Can't we just all be rational and act as a UNITED America instead of dividing based on political party affiliations?
